What is urgent medical care?

Urgent medical care addresses medical concerns that need immediate attention but are not life-threatening. For instance, you cut your hand opening a can of dog food, and the resulting laceration requires suturing. Or, perhaps it's 7 pm on a Friday night, and your child has a moderate asthma attack and needs an assessment.

At Texan Family Clinic in San Antonio, urgent care is our business. When you come to the office, you'll be seen quickly by Dr. Hoyumpa who will perform a medical examination, assess your symptoms/vital signs, and formulate a treatment plan to stabilize your condition.

The doctor will perform diagnostics tests as needed on site, including:

  • Blood work
  • Strep testing
  • Flu assessment and treatment
  • Urinalysis for UTI
  • Blood glucose testing

If required, he'll refer and arrange transport to the nearest hospital emergency room for conditions such as cardiac arrhythmias, possible stroke, unresolved bleeding, and more. In-house, he can treat conditions such as:

  • Pneumonia
  • Influenza
  • Sprains, strains, and mild to moderate lacerations
  • Vomiting and diarrhea
  • Ear and sinus infections
  • Rashes
  • Injuries from falls
  • Minor burns and abrasions
  • Irritations and infections of the eye (conjunctivitis)

The Urgent Care Association of America says there are about 9,000 urgent care centers in the United States serving about 160 million patients of all ages every single year. Medical Economics reports that people use urgent care centers more and more because they enjoy the convenience and accessibility.

At Texan Family Clinic, Dr. Hoyumpa accommodates these desires while additionally providing superior quality health care on a continual basis. He and his staff encourage you to make their practice your medical home for the management of chronic and acute medical conditions!
